Engineer jailed for illegal gas work.

A customer contracted Peter Read, an engineer, to install a new gas central heating boiler in January 2020. A few days after the work, the customer experienced problems with the boiler. An inspection by an engineer on a Gas safe register reveals that the installation did not meet the current requirements.

Health and safety executive investigation on the illegal gas work

The health and safety executive (HSE ) reveals that Peter Read was not competent to carry out the gas work and had been previously prosecuted in April 2016 by Health and Safety executive. However, Peter Read is fully aware of his legal responsibilities when carrying out the gas work. 

Court prosecution.

On 2 December 2022 at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court, Peter Read of Seafield Road, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 3(1) and 3(3) of the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations 1998 and section 22 of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974. He was handed a custodial sentence of 20 weeks at the court.
