Haulage company fined after a worker dies from injuries.
A haulage company in Wales was fined £100000 when a worker fell from a loading bay and died.
A 63-year-old worker was preparing a load of trailers in his lorry for delivery to a site in Germany. While at that, he climbed to reach the top of his lorry. He had one foot on the loading bay and one foot on the back of another lorry.
The worker had fallen from that height of 1.25 metres onto the concrete floor when the adjacent lorry was driven away. He sustained a head injury and later died at the Royal Stoke Hospital on 16 May 2020.
HSE UK investigation reports:
The health and safety executive HSE found out that the haulage company Williams Haulage Ltd had a risk assessment that captured the risk from falls with control measures but not used in practice.
There was no supervision and monitoring from the haulage company during such activity. The visiting drivers were not giving sufficient consideration to the fact that English was not their first language.
Fines from the Incident.
The Williams haulage company were fined £100000 and ordered to pay £8400.50 in cost at Llandudno magistrates court on 20 September after pleading guilty to bleaching section 3 (1) of the health and safety at work etc. Act of 1974.
